Delegates from Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University Paid A Visit to Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Universitas Gadjah Mada

Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine FK-KMK UGM – Nine delegates from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University (FTM MU), Thailand paid a visit to Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK) on Thursday, 9 August 2018. The FTM MU, represented by Dean, Assoc. Prof. Pratap Singhasivanon, and FK-KMK UGM, represented by Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K), Ph.D., signed the MoA regarding future collaborations between the two institutes.

The FTM MU delegates were warmly welcomed by Dr. dr. Ida Safitri Laksanawati, Sp.A(K) during their visit to Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in the morning. The delegates were accompanied to hospital tour to special clinics of Department of Internal Medicine and both outpatient and inpatient Department of Pediatrics. The delegates were able to see several cases related to tropical diseases during their visit.

In the afternoon, the FTM MU delegates also paid a visit to several laboratory facilities, including laboratory of Department of Parasitology, Integrated Research Laboratory, and insectarium of Eliminate Dengue Project (EDP). Postgraduate students and researchers working at the lab eagerly explained their research work to the delegates. At the EDP insectarium, the delegates showed interest in Wolbachia method in dengue control program.

The laboratory visit was followed by brief introduction on Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine UGM at the PAU Building of UGM by dr. Elsa Herdiana Murhandarwati, M.Kes., Ph.D. as the Program Director. The presentation was also attended by observers from Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. The staff of Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine UGM, along with FTM MU and UNAIR delegates, held a discussion regarding curriculum structure and program highlights as fundamental basis to future collaborations in research, teaching, and trainings

The meeting was completed by poster presentations by students from Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine UGM, followed by photo session.

Both institutions agreed to supervise and to follow up the agreements made, so that the collaboration will not only be in the form of student exchange, but also in the form of staff exchange and further research activities.
